It's been quite sometime that I wanted to explore America's Great West. My brother, Leroy Bernard, had worked out in Gypsum, Colorado last summer, and all his journal entries and stories inspired me to do the same. This journey is meant for me to explore myself through self reflection. Leroy and I plan on hiking hundreds of miles this summer, so I will have plenty of time for this reflection.
On May 20th, Leroy Bernard, Jack Masterson, Athena Flytrap, and Cowboy Dan are going to set off to Port Clinton. We will be hiking 2 sections of the Appalachian Trail (AT) in Pennsylvania before heading out to Colorado. The first section is Port Clinton to rt. 325 crossing near Duncannon. The second section is Trindle Rd crossing in Carlisle to the PA-MD border. With these 2 sections completed, Leroy and I will have successfully completed the AT in PA.
When we arrive in Colorado, we plan on hiking several peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation by the time I leave on August 17th. I will also be working at a summer camp while in Colorado so that I can make some more money for my Appalachian Trail Thru Hike in 2013.
I will only be home from school for about 9 days until leave again for Colorado. As much as I would love to stay and be with my friends and family, I know I need to take the opportunity to explore new things.
I hope to update at least every week, depending if I have anything to post or not.
